Berliner Schlüssel
Der Berliner Schlüssel consists of three original "Berlin keys" received by the artist when moving to the city in 2009. Following the replacement of the locks in his house, the keys lost their practical function and were transformed into museum objects.
Each key bears the inscription Jewish, Christian or Muslim, referring to the three religious traditions that have shaped Berlin's history while also acknowledging the artist's Spanish roots, where centuries of coexistence between these cultures have left enduring traces in language, architecture and everyday life.
Removed from their domestic function and presented as historical artefacts, the keys become a reflection on belonging, migration and the layered cultural histories embedded within ordinary objects.
