As part of the final exhibition of the REcall project at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin, a large-scale mock-up of Melting Traces was presented to the public. The exhibition brought together proposals exploring alternative approaches to conflict heritage and collective memory beyond traditional forms of memorialisation.
For the exhibition, ten full-scale ice blocks containing everyday objects were installed as a fragment of the proposed intervention for the Quadraro neighbourhood in Rome. The installation allowed visitors to experience the central element of the project: the gradual disappearance of the ice and the emergence of individual objects as traces of absent lives.
Presented within the institutional setting of the Nordic Embassies, the mock-up functioned both as an exhibition piece and as a test of the project’s spatial and temporal qualities, translating a neighbourhood-scale proposal into a direct and tangible experience.
