Overview Effect

Overview Effect was a group exhibition developed for the historic Riese cobbler store in Beelitz. Taking its title from the phenomenon experienced by astronauts when viewing Earth from space, the project explored moments in which ordinary perception gives way to a sudden awareness of broader temporal, historical and planetary relationships.

The exhibition brought together works that connected everyday experiences with larger questions of memory, landscape, ecology and collective existence. Installed within a building that has stood on the same site since 1798, the exhibition proposed the former cobbler store as a threshold between the immediacy of daily life and deeper reflections on time and belonging.

Rather than referring solely to a view from outer space, Overview Effect approached art as a means of producing epiphanies: moments in which familiar realities are seen anew and connections between past, present and future become visible.
