Topography (I)

Topography (I) consists of a series of stone-like blocks cast from melted glass schnapps bottles collected in the streets of Berlin.

Discarded after consumption and often left where they fall, these small bottles become part of the city's everyday landscape. Through a process of melting and recasting, they are transformed into construction elements, shifting from urban residue to building material.

The sculptures draw inspiration from the small foundation stones placed beneath many Berlin buildings to accommodate the subtle movements produced by the city's high groundwater levels. Although rarely noticed, these technical elements allow the architecture to adapt continuously to forces acting beneath the surface.

Recast as construction blocks, the bottles connect everyday traces of urban life with the hidden infrastructures that support the city. Like the buildings themselves, they suggest a landscape shaped through slow and continuous transformation.
