While the angel sculpture at Berlin's Mehringplatz was temporarily removed during renovation works, this intervention reconstructed its silhouette using discarded bottle caps collected in the surrounding streets.
Installed on the wire mesh fence of a nearby playground, the bottle caps transformed a familiar neighbourhood material into a temporary public image. By relocating the angel from its pedestal to an everyday urban structure, the intervention allowed the monument to reappear through traces left by the people who used the square, suggesting another way in which public memory can inhabit the city.
